Painswick Players

...a dramatic web site

This is Painswick Players' 85th season. 'Twas back in the summer of 1923 that Miss Lucy Hyett produced As You Like It in her back garden, ie the idyllic grounds of Painswick House. Since 1923, we have staged 200 odd productions – some very odd - and they're all listed on the Past Productions page. For more dramatic details of the intervening years - including rare archive pictures - take a look at our History of Painswick Players page. Also worth a peek is the Living Legends page recording our 80th Anniversary celebration in 2003.

Our last production was Alan Ayckbourn’s It Could Be Any One Of Us in June at the Painswick Centre, directed by Natasha Dickenson.   Rehearsals are underway.

Previously this year, in February, we staged a sell-out panto, Snow White & the Seven Not Particularly Tall People directed by Lesley Wolowiec. It was written by our very own Jack Burgess who freely admits to relying on fading childhood memories of seeing the Walt Disney version of Snow White on the big screen and also of missing a fair bit of it whilst rummaging under the seat trying to retrieve the ice lolly that he’d dropped in fright when the witch first appeared. This may explain some curious twists to the plot, such as the unexpected appearances of Dick Whittington, a troupe of tap dancing Trolls and chuckle mining in the Last Laugh Mountains of Saccharinia (which is no laughing matter). Not to mention Seven Not Particularly Tall People.

This was only our second pantomime, the first being The Dragon’s Tale (or Tail) in 2002, which was also written by Jack Burgess and directed by Leslie Wolowiec.
